Contraceptive Implant
We offer contraceptive implant (Nexplanon) fitting at Essex House.
Dr Amoyel is trained to fit and remove the implants.
How to book an appointment
We currently operate a waiting list for both insertions and removals. If you would like to have a consultation prior to your appointment, do ask the receptionist who will be able to arrange it for you.
Prior to the fitting, we need to be absolutely sure you are not pregnant so the receptionist will aim to book you during your period. If you are not having periods (for instance breastfeeding), we would ask you to abstain from sexual intercourse for at least 2 weeks prior to the fitting and check a pregnancy test on the morning of your appointment.
If you are using a different method of contraception, please continue this until after the appointment.
If there is even a small chance of pregnancy, your clinician will not be able to do the fitting and the appointment will be wasted.
If possible, come without children as it will allow you to relax better.
What to expect
The appointment lasts 30 minutes but the insertion only takes about 5 minutes, the removal can take a little longer.
Prior to insertion, your clinician will discuss the procedure with you to ensure you are happy.
Local anaesthetic (numbing solution) will be injected into your upper, inner arm. The implant will then be inserted under the skin. You will have some sertistrips and small plaster applied over the wound. There can be some local bruising.
